Creative destruction

Since I am supposed to write a paper on this I thought it would be wise to blog about creative destruction. So what exactly is creative destruction? And how is it affecting the U.S? Is it a good thing that creative destruction affects the U.S or not?

How culture affects globalization

How does globalization affect culture? : As the world comes together, the cultures tend to intermingle causing original traditions to dissipate. Globalization will cause these cultures to be different than their original ancestry. Causing the world to have a single culture made by the blending of other cultures.

Chad & others

The U.S’s productivity has increased by 400% within the last 100 years. Partially because of technology, worker incentives, better education, and many other things. Is it possible for countries in Africa  like Chad to  get as productive in the U.S? I think not because countries in Africa are slowly growing and even though they have the land and labor, their governments hold them back and there technology is far inferior to ours. So doesnt this also mean the world will not be flat unless a highly productive country sends technolgy over to Africa, which I also dont think will happen. What do you other people think?

Invisible Magnetism

Why do  I call my blog invisible magnetism? The world is coming closer. Way back in the day (centuries before I was born), people were concerned for their own self personal gain within their country. People traded, but no one thought of expanding their business outside of their little village. Countries sold, bought, and conquered to expand their country. However, you didn’t see a bread merchant have several bakeries in Asia and Europe or even France and Germany. Then you skip along a couple centuries and people start trading more and more. By the 18th centuries you might see to shops owned by the same person. You start to have trading companies emerge and try to bring the world together. However, this was only the very beginning of invisible magnetism. Than you get to the 20th century. Were businesses expand even more. The world gets closer  and closer. Businesses expand to other countries. Cultures share ideals and traits. Economies encourage their countries to trade because they’ve figured out that trade is good for the country. By the late 20th century, communication becomes worldwide. We are now able to communicate with people all over the world.  Then we get to the start of the 21st century. Most of Europe shares the same currency. Countries such as UPS become intermediaries from the businesses to the people. The world is so close together (economically, culturally, socially, and politically) that it is a communicating Pangea. However were not coming together with plates and land forms, but by technology. Technology is magnetizing the world together to the point in which we will become one. And although we aren’t there yet, we will be soon. Lets just hope we dont repel away from each other.

Just a blog about me :)

Well since we are supposedly getting “quizzed” on our profiles, i guess i should put something up about me. Im from Burke, Va. Ive lived all over the place. I was born i Georgia, and ive lived in Germany, Maryland, and two parts of Northern VA. I went to PVI (Paul VI) HIgh school. Ive swam my whole life and I love it like its my job. I also swim at UMW and love it…well everything cept getting up at 5:30 AM. But the team is really close and awesome, for those students who are invloved in something, i recommend you do a club sport or at least join a club, because thats how ive met new people and as of now i can even say, it was a CHOICE WELL MADE.

Lets see what else can I talk about…My favorite movie is Batman Dark Knight as well as he is my favorite super hero. My favorite food would probably have to be either delicious steak or pizza. I spend my time usually swimming, partying, studying, or napping (the usual college lifestyle). Now im gonna tell a quick short story from one of my favorite comedians: Steve Colbert

“There once was a kid who didnt listen to all the rules his father gave him, He got tired of following all those ridiculous rules, so one day he rebelled and fought against his dads rules. In the end the kid turned out alright and became a powerful leader. You know who this kid was…this kid was America.”

Anyway, thats me, for the most part, I could go into more detail but due to the amount of wierd people that might end up reading this someday, I shall stop. Hope you enjoyed this excerpt about my life and i look forward to hearing all the comments I will or will not recieve.

Much love,

Grant Kenny

P.S- Globalization rocks :)

UPS:Is it to big of an intermediary?

As I was reading “The World is Flat,” I read about how UPS was pretty much used for a lot of companies as basically and intermediary between the producers and the consumers. I thought it was interesting that what started out as a postal service company, ends up know basically being and muti-service company. I can’t really imagine coming out of college with a computer science degree and then telling my parent and friends that I fix computers, but work for UPS. Anyway, regardless of the fact that it is a mail company, I wonder if this idea of almost relying on  another company is smart for buisness. The plus side is that it saves companies money as well as time to the buyers. But negatively, if you rely on a company to much other than your own, what happens when the company runs out of buisness. Also, your paying another company money to do your job, which helps them but if they run out of buisness, it sounds to me like your screwed. But who knows, what are everyone else’s opinion on this? Is it smart that companies uses companies such as UPS to do some of the work?
